Why I chose Internal Family Systems

After starting therapy 30 years ago, about ten years in, I felt it was doing more harm than good.

This deep feeling paired with more health concerns led me down the path which became 20 plus years of travel, education, trainings and workshops of seeking the answers to a nagging feeling I had which was “something has to be more helpful than the tools and support I’ve been offered”.

It took so much time, suffering, isolation, exploration to slowly chip away at I was told I couldn’t not resolve, only manage.

I knew that, deep down, this was not true. I knew my physical issues were also mental issues and that my mental health was also affecting my physical health.

Slowly as I built trust with my body, I built trust to feel my emotions, Internal Family Systems entered my life. 6 years later, I still haven’t found anything to be quite as effective for myself nor my clients.

I still love many things I discovered over the years, but if Im being honest, they don’t quite move the needle like taking the time to sit with these parts that can take over my day.

IFS has taught me deeper compassion, kindness towards myself, it has taught me how rich the inner world is and how to work WITH it rather than manage it or sooth it away. It has taught me forgiveness, understanding and built my capacity to sit with all that is life rather than run away.

If your story is similar to mine, endless searching, talking in therapy , but still struggle to move through to having the life you know is possible for yourself, I would love to connect with you.
